Man Arrested For Posessing Tetrodotoxin
The FBI arrested a McHenry County man Monday on a felony charge of possessing tetrodotoxin — a deadly poison found in puffer fish. Edward F. Bachner IV, 35, of Lake in the Hills, ordered 98 milligrams of the toxin from a New Jersey chemical company, the FBI said. Using the alias Edmond Backer, he claimed he was a doctor doing research for an Illinois firm, EB Strategic Research, according to the FBI.
The company alerted the FBI, which found out that Bachner’s alias and EB Strategic Research were bogus. He was arrested in Algonquin after allegedly trying to take possession of a small quantity of tetrodotoxin from a member of the FBI’s joint-terrorism task force. Bachner’s neighbors watched with concern Monday morning as FBI agents in biohazard suits removed items from his house in the 5700 block of McKenzie Drive. Read more …
